KENYA - U.S. Crisis Corps (’02) - Kahatia, Central Province, Kenya, East Africa - Disaster/Public Health Response: HIV/AIDS Epidemic: Capacity Building Specialist: Worked with local NGOs (CBOs) as part of an HIV/AIDS related disaster relief initiative in one of the most acutely HIV-affected regions of the world. Provided leadership training, principals and strategies for CBO(NGO) formation, training of trainers, funding development, collaborative design of sustainable community outreach strategies, community education and mobilization functions.

NIGER - Republic of Niger, Ministry of Mines and Energy - U.S. Peace Corps (’86–’88) - Dogondoutchi, Niger, West Africa - Conservation Extension Agent: Served with the county level government of Niger on a national environmental conservation project involving natural resource conservation and forest protection. U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency ('08) - Topeka, Kansas - Disaster Response: Tornado and Deadly Weather: Hazard Mitigation Community Education and Outreach Specialist: Performed public education and outreach duties related to disaster preparedness, prevention, recovery and reconstruction practices in a dozen counties of southeast Kansas. U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency/U.S. Crisis Corps (’05) - Boutte, Louisiana - Disaster Response: Hurricane Katrina: Individual Assistance Caseworker: Among the first 50 volunteers deployed in the historic first ever domestic deployment of the U.S. Peace Corps, following the largest natural disaster in United States history (Hurricane Katrina). Assigned to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and trained as an Individual Assistance Specialist (IA), served as a first response caseworker, providing one-on-one assistance and program advocacy to disaster victims.
